I'll Always Pick You

You know my obsession with anything berry. We have a farmer friend up the way and enjoyed picking delicious raspberries at King's Gap Farm yesterday. They also offer unique pumpkins, mums, and end of season u-pick raspberries in red and champagne varieties.
I was tickled to see they had many Cinderella pumpkins! These are so beautiful and delicious for soup and stews and pumpkin butters. They are typically way overpriced at other produce stands. Not here. Very reasonable!

King's Gap Farm also offers eggs and various u-pick fruits and veggies. We froze some of our berries and canned the ripe ones into raspberry syrup. The camera does not truly reflect the resulting color. Pure joy!

Canning means we'll enjoy a low sugar alternative soda from the soda maker. It's yummy combined with cranberry or mulberry juice. It's perfect for pancakes, oatmeal and desserts. Add it to tea, lemonade, or even milk. I personally love a teaspoon in morning joe to enhance the chocolate notes of the coffee. A little kiss of summer for the winter blahs.
One of my favorite scenes from a childhood novel turned movie, Anne of Green Gables. Hail the Raspberry Cordial!

Looking for something fun to do with the fam? If you live near Cumberland County, Kings Gap Farm is easily accessible off the main road to King's Gap Environmental State Park.
It makes for a great day of fruit picking, hiking, and glorious views. There's an old turn of the century mansion/bed and breakfast with garden. They have ongoing events and it's super fun to explore. The park has over 16 different trails. Something for everyone.
We'll continue to milk the most of waning summer days. With lows dipping into the 50s soon, pepper plants will move into the sunroom for a winter sleep. Happy prepping, friends!
